Aluminium Sliding Doors and Windows

Aluminium Sliding Doors and Windows in Kampala, Uganda
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living and Space Saving Design Effortless

Space is precious. Doors and windows that swing open consume valuable floor area and limit furniture placement. Sliding systems solve this elegantly.

They glide horizontally along tracks, requiring no clearance for door swings, making them the ideal choice for connecting indoor living spaces to verandas, gardens, and balconies.

They are also the practical choice for shopfronts, hotel rooms, and any application where space efficiency matters.

At Gretarck Limited, our sliding door and window division fabricates and installs precision-engineered aluminium sliding systems for every sector across Uganda and East Africa.

We use branded aluminium profiles, stainless steel tracks and rollers, and multi-point locking hardware to deliver systems that slide smoothly, seal tightly, and secure reliably.

Why Choose Gretarck for Sliding Doors and Windows?

  • Smooth, Silent Operation: Precision-engineered tracks and high-quality stainless steel rollers ensure effortless gliding, year after year.

  • Space-Saving Design: No floor space consumed by door swings. Maximise your usable room area and furniture layout options.

  • Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Wide openings that blur the boundary between interior living spaces and exterior terraces, gardens, and views.

  • Robust Security: Multi-point locking, anti-lift devices, and laminated glass options for peace of mind.

Our Aluminium Sliding Process

We follow a meticulous process from survey to handover.

Phase 1: Site Survey & Measurement

Our technicians visit your site to take precise opening measurements. We assess the structural substrate, check for level and plumb, and note any access considerations for large panel delivery.

Phase 2: System Specification

We help you select the appropriate sliding system based on panel size, weight, frequency of use, and budget. Options range from standard sliding systems to high-performance lift-and-slide mechanisms for heavy-duty panels.

Phase 3: Fabrication

Frames and sliding sashes are fabricated in our workshop using branded aluminium profiles. Glass is cut to size and processed—toughened, laminated, or coated as specified. Tracks, rollers, locks, handles, and weather seals are fitted. Every completed unit is tested for smooth operation.

Phase 4: Installation

Our installation team delivers the fabricated units to your site. Existing windows or doors are carefully removed for replacement projects. New frames are fixed into prepared openings with appropriate anchors. Sliding panels are hung on their tracks and adjusted for perfect alignment and operation.

Phase 5: Sealing & Finishing

Perimeter sealants are applied internally and externally. We check every panel for smooth sliding, correct closure, and complete weather sealing. Any making good to surrounding finishes is completed.

Phase 6: Handover & Care Guide

We demonstrate operation, locking, and track maintenance. A written care guide is provided. Manufacturer warranties are registered and handed over.

Our Aluminium Sliding Services
Residential Patio Sliding Doors

The classic application for sliding doors, connecting living rooms, dining areas, or master bedrooms to verandas, patios, and gardens.

  • Two-Panel Sliding Doors: One fixed panel and one sliding panel. The most common configuration for standard openings. The sliding panel glides behind or in front of the fixed panel, providing a clear opening of approximately half the total width.

  • Three-Panel Sliding Doors: One fixed panel and two sliding panels, or two fixed panels and one sliding panel. Allows for a wider clear opening. Panels can slide in one direction or both directions depending on configuration.

  • Four-Panel Sliding Doors: Two fixed outer panels and two sliding inner panels that part in the centre. Creates a dramatic, wide opening that fully connects interior and exterior spaces. Ideal for larger homes and entertainment areas.

  • Corner Sliding Doors: Two sliding door systems meeting at a corner, with a removable corner post. When fully opened, the entire corner of the room disappears, creating an unobstructed connection to the outdoor space. A stunning architectural feature for luxury homes.

Our residential sliding doors feature:

  • Thermal break options for air-conditioned interiors.

  • Low-threshold options for seamless indoor-outdoor floor transition.

  • Multi-point locking with anti-lift security.

  • Compatibility with mosquito mesh sliding screens.

Lift-and-Slide Door Systems

For larger, heavier door panels, standard sliding rollers are not sufficient. Lift-and-slide mechanisms use a lever handle to lift the sliding panel slightly off its weather seals before it can slide. This reduces friction, allows smooth operation of heavy panels, and provides the tightest possible weather seal when closed.

  • Heavy Panel Sliding Doors: Panels up to 2.5 metres wide and 3 metres high, weighing several hundred kilogrammes, can be operated smoothly with one hand using lift-and-slide mechanisms.

  • Premium Residential Installations: The preferred choice for high-end homes where large glass panels and the best thermal and weather performance are required.

  • Commercial & Hospitality Applications: Heavy-duty lift-and-slide systems for hotel lobbies, restaurant terraces, and premium commercial spaces.

Benefits of lift-and-slide systems:

  • Effortless operation of heavy glass panels.

  • Superior compression seal when closed, maximising thermal and acoustic performance.

  • Smooth, controlled sliding motion.

  • Long-term durability with minimal maintenance.

Apartment Balcony Windows

Horizontal sliding windows are the practical choice for apartment balconies and walkways where outward-opening windows would encroach on circulation space.

  • Two-Panel Sliding Windows: One fixed pane and one sliding pane, providing 50% ventilation. Suitable for standard apartment window openings.

  • Three-Panel Sliding Windows: Two sliding panes and one fixed pane, or other configurations, providing greater ventilation flexibility.

  • Multi-Track Sliding Windows: Two or more sliding tracks allowing panels to slide past each other, maximising the openable area.

Our apartment sliding windows feature:

  • Slim sightlines to maximise glass area and views.

  • Smooth, quiet operation suitable for daily use.

  • Secure locking with night-vent positions.

  • Compatibility with fixed or sliding mosquito mesh screens.

Commercial Shopfront Sliding Doors

Retail shops, supermarkets, banks, and commercial premises require robust sliding entrance doors that handle high-frequency daily use while presenting an inviting entrance.

  • Automatic Sliding Doors: Sensor-activated sliding doors that open automatically as customers approach. Essential for supermarkets, shopping centres, and high-traffic retail environments. We supply and install complete automatic door packages including sensors, safety beams, and control systems.

  • Manual Commercial Sliding Doors: Robust, heavy-duty sliding doors for shops and offices where automatic operation is not required. Designed for smooth operation under frequent use.

  • Telescopic Sliding Doors: Multi-panel automatic doors where panels slide past each other in a telescoping action, maximising the clear opening width within a compact frame.

  • Curved Sliding Doors: Automatic sliding doors with curved glass panels, creating a dramatic, contemporary entrance feature.

Our commercial sliding doors feature:

  • Heavy-duty aluminium profiles and commercial-grade hardware.

  • Safety sensors and obstruction detection on automatic systems.

  • Emergency break-out functionality for fire escape.

  • Integration with access control and security systems.

Hotel Room Balcony Access

Hotel and lodge guest rooms often feature sliding doors opening onto private balconies or terraces. These must operate smoothly and quietly, lock securely, and withstand frequent use by different guests.

  • Guest Room Sliding Doors: Smooth, quiet sliding doors with simple, intuitive operation. Lockable handles provide guest security without complexity.

  • Lodge Suite Sliding Doors: Larger sliding doors for premium suites, often lift-and-slide systems for heavy glass panels that maximise views.

  • Spa & Wellness Sliding Doors: Sliding doors opening onto private treatment terraces or relaxation gardens.

Our hospitality sliding doors feature:

  • Robust, reliable operation for high-frequency use.

  • Simple, clear locking mechanisms for guest safety.

  • Solar control glass to manage heat gain in guest rooms.

  • Coordination with blackout blind and curtain systems.

Industrial Sliding Gates & Access Panels

Industrial facilities use sliding systems for secure, space-efficient vehicle and personnel access.

  • Sliding Vehicle Gates: Heavy-duty aluminium or steel-framed sliding gates for factory and warehouse vehicle entrances. Manual or motorised operation.

  • Warehouse Sliding Access Doors: Large sliding doors for goods-in and dispatch bays, designed for frequent operation and fork-lift traffic.

  • Sliding Personnel Gates: Pedestrian access gates within larger industrial gate systems.

  • Sliding Access Panels: Sliding panels for machinery enclosures, service access, and equipment protection.

Our industrial sliding systems feature:

  • Heavy-duty tracks and rollers rated for industrial use.

  • Robust locking and security hardware.

  • Corrosion-resistant finishes.

  • Motorisation and remote-control options.

Mosquito Mesh Sliding Screens

Uganda’s climate makes insect screening essential for comfortable living. We supply and install aluminium-framed mosquito mesh sliding screens that complement your sliding doors and windows.

  • Sliding Mesh Doors: A sliding mesh screen panel that operates independently of the glass sliding door. It slides on its own track, allowing the glass door to remain open for ventilation while the mesh screen keeps insects out.

  • Sliding Mesh Windows: Mesh screens fitted to sliding windows, either fixed to one side or sliding on a separate track.

  • Retractable Mesh Screens: Mesh screens that roll into a discreet cassette when not in use and pull across the opening when needed. Ideal for doors where a permanent sliding mesh panel is not desired.

  • Pleated Mesh Screens: Mesh that folds in a concertina fashion when open. Suitable for wide openings where a single sliding mesh panel would be impractical.

Our mosquito mesh screens feature:

  • Durable aluminium frames with powder-coated finish.

  • High-quality fibreglass or stainless steel mesh.

  • Smooth, quiet sliding operation.

  • Matching frame colour to your door or window system.

  • Double Slider: Two sliding panels, often parting in the centre. No fixed panel. Maximum opening flexibility.

  • Pocket Slider: The sliding panel disappears into a wall pocket when open, creating a completely clear opening with no visible stacked panel.

  • Stacker Slider: Multiple sliding panels that stack together at one or both sides when open. Maximises the clear opening width.

Track Options

  • Standard Track: Visible sill track on the floor. Most cost-effective option.

  • Low-Threshold Track: Minimal projection above floor level, creating a near-flush transition between interior and exterior. Ideal for accessibility and clean aesthetics.

  • Flush Threshold Track: Completely flush with the finished floor. Achieves a seamless indoor-outdoor transition. Requires careful detailing of drainage and waterproofing.

  • Top-Hung Sliding: Panels suspended from a top track with no bottom track at all. Provides a completely uninterrupted floor surface. Suitable for interior applications and protected exterior locations.

Performance Features of Our Sliding Systems

Weather Performance

Our sliding doors and windows incorporate interlocking profiles that create a tight weather seal when closed. Integrated drainage channels within the frame capture and direct any water away. High-performance weather gaskets and brush seals block draughts and driving rain.

Thermal Performance

Thermally broken aluminium profiles combined with appropriate glazing significantly reduce heat transfer. This is particularly important for air-conditioned interiors where sliding doors connect to hot external terraces or balconies.

Acoustic Performance

For properties near busy roads or other noise sources, we offer acoustic laminated glass and enhanced perimeter seals to reduce external noise intrusion.

Security

Multi-point locking is standard on our sliding doors. Anti-lift devices prevent the sliding panel from being lifted out of its track from the outside. Additional security options include laminated security glass, key-lockable handles, and integration with alarm systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

How wide can a sliding door opening be?

Sliding door openings can be very wide. Two-panel systems typically span up to 4 metres. Three and four-panel systems can span 6 metres or more. For very wide openings, we use multiple panels and stacking configurations. We will advise on the best solution for your space.

Are sliding doors secure?

Yes. Our sliding doors feature multi-point locking and anti-lift devices as standard. For ground-floor and accessible installations, we recommend laminated glass for additional security. Sliding doors are no less secure than hinged doors when correctly specified and installed.

Can sliding doors be automated?

Yes. We supply and install automatic sliding door operators for both interior and exterior sliding doors. Automation is popular for commercial entrances and is increasingly requested for high-end residential applications.

How do I maintain sliding door tracks?

Track maintenance is simple. Keep the track free of debris by occasional vacuuming or brushing. A light silicone spray lubricant applied to the track annually keeps operation smooth. We provide detailed care instructions at handover.

Do you supply mosquito mesh screens for sliding doors?

Yes. We supply and install sliding mesh screens, retractable screens, and pleated screens for all our sliding door and window systems. These operate independently, allowing ventilation without insects.

Can you replace old sliding doors with new aluminium ones?

Absolutely. We regularly remove old steel, timber, or uPVC sliding doors and install new aluminium systems. We take care to make good the surrounding walls and floor, ensuring a weather-tight, attractive finish.

Do you provide a warranty?

Yes. We provide a workmanship warranty on our installation. Manufacturer warranties apply to the aluminium profiles, glass, hardware, tracks, and rollers. Specific warranty terms are detailed in your contract.
