Smart Ventilation. Clean Lines. Rain or Shine.
Windows must do more than let in light. They must manage ventilation, keep out driving rain, provide security, and look elegant while doing it. Aluminium projected windows achieve all of this with remarkable efficiency.
Hinged at the top or bottom and opening outward, they allow fresh air to circulate even during Uganda’s heavy downpours, making them one of the most practical and popular window choices for homes, offices, and commercial buildings across East Africa.
At Gretarck Limited, our projected window division fabricates and installs precision-engineered aluminium projected windows for every sector.
We use branded aluminium profiles, multi-point locking hardware, and heavy-duty friction stays to deliver windows that operate smoothly, seal tightly, and endure for decades.

Our Aluminium Projected Window Process
We follow a meticulous process from measurement to handover.
Phase 1: Site Survey & Measurement
Our technicians visit your site to take precise opening measurements for every window. We assess the structural reveals, check for obstructions, and note any access considerations for higher-level windows.
Phase 2: Window Specification & Design
We help you select the appropriate profile series, opening configuration, glass type, and hardware finish. We advise on the best hinge position, top-hung or bottom-hung based on the window’s location and function.
Phase 3: Fabrication
Window frames and sashes are cut, machined, and assembled in our controlled workshop. Glass is cut to size and processed as specified. Friction stays, hinges, locks, handles, and weather seals are fitted. Every completed window is checked for squareness and operation.
Phase 4: Installation
Our trained installation team delivers the finished windows to your site. Existing windows are carefully removed where this is a replacement project. New frames are fixed into the prepared openings with appropriate fixings and sealed around the perimeter.
Phase 5: Sealing & Finishing
We apply internal and external perimeter sealants for a weather-tight installation. We check every window for smooth operation, correct closure, and complete weather sealing. Any making good to surrounding plaster or render is completed.
Phase 6: Handover & Care Guide
We demonstrate the operation and locking of each window and provide a written care and maintenance guide. Manufacturer warranties are registered and handed over.
Our Aluminium Projected Window Services
Top-Hung Projected Windows
Top-hung projected windows are hinged along the top edge and open outward from the bottom. They are the most popular projected window type, particularly for residential applications.
-
Bedroom Ventilation: Top-hung windows provide gentle, draught-free ventilation at night. They can be left partially open during rain without water entering the room.
-
Living Area Windows: Large top-hung units that flood living spaces with light and allow controlled fresh air intake. They pair beautifully with fixed glazing panels for a contemporary look.
-
Kitchen Windows: Top-hung windows positioned above worktops provide ventilation without occupying valuable wall space inside the kitchen. They open outward, so they never interfere with taps, appliances, or work surfaces.
-
Bathroom Windows: Privacy is maintained while allowing steam and moisture to escape. The outward-opening design prevents water ingress during showering.
-
High-Level Windows: Top-hung windows installed high on walls for light and ventilation where reach is limited. We can supply pole-operated or motorised opening mechanisms for inaccessible locations.
Benefits of top-hung projected windows:

Performance Features of Our Projected Windows
Weather Performance
Projected windows are inherently weather-resistant due to their outward-opening design. Combined with our high-performance weather seals and integrated drainage channels within the aluminium frame, our windows achieve excellent water-tightness and air permeability ratings. Driving rain is deflected by the open sash, allowing ventilation during wet weather.
Thermal Performance
Our aluminium profiles incorporate thermal breaks—insulating barriers between the inner and outer frame sections. Combined with appropriate glazing, our thermally broken projected windows significantly reduce heat transfer, keeping interiors cooler and reducing air conditioning energy consumption.
Acoustic Performance
For properties near busy roads, markets, or other noise sources, we offer acoustic laminated glass and enhanced perimeter seals to reduce external noise intrusion while still allowing ventilation when windows are open.
Security
Multi-point locking is standard on our projected windows. The locking points engage at multiple positions around the sash, not just at the handle. This provides excellent resistance to forced entry. Laminated glass adds further security by holding the pane together even if broken.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between top-hung and bottom-hung projected windows?
Top-hung windows are hinged at the top and open outward from the bottom. They are the most common type, providing rain-safe ventilation. Bottom-hung windows are hinged at the bottom and open inward or outward from the top. They are often used for high-level ventilation, smoke exhaust, or where cleaning access from inside is required.
Can projected windows be used on upper floors?
Yes. Top-hung projected windows are an excellent choice for upper floors. When fitted with easy-clean friction stays, the sash can be released and swung inward for cleaning from inside the room.
Are projected windows secure?
Yes. We fit multi-point locking as standard. The outward-opening design is inherently resistant to being forced inward. For ground-floor and accessible windows, we recommend laminated glass for additional security.
Do you supply mosquito mesh screens for projected windows?
Yes. We supply and fit durable aluminium-framed mosquito mesh screens for all our projected windows. Screens can be fixed or hinged to allow window operation and cleaning.
How do I clean the outside of a projected window on an upper floor?
Our projected windows are fitted with easy-clean friction stays that allow the sash to be released and pivoted inward for cleaning. This means the exterior glass can be cleaned safely from inside the building.
What colours are available for the aluminium frames?
We offer a wide range of powder-coated RAL colours, anodised finishes, and timber-effect finishes. We can match most architectural colour schemes. Standard white, black, and grey are always available.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes. We provide a workmanship warranty on our installation. Manufacturer warranties apply to the aluminium profiles, glass, hardware, friction stays, and seals. Specific warranty terms are detailed in your contract.
